Entertainment Media

The Hunger Games is broadcast and required for all the districts of Panem to see. Many aspects of the Hunger Games are controlled by the Gamemakers. What comparisons can you make between today's reality TV and the Hunger Games?

  1. A comparision I can make between reality TV and the Hunger Games is that in both, they show stungles in life and they are show as an enjoyment for the people. Also, you get paid.Only,in the Hunger Games the winner gets paid and on reality TV everyone gets paid. Lastly, they sometime hurt themselve and other,Just in the Hunger Games that's what they are about.

  2. Some comparisons between reality TV and the hunger games is they both are being controlled by someone. The hunger games are being controlled by the game makers, and reality TV is controlled by producers. In reality TV people are paid to be watched and let their life be interfered with media. In the hunger games people are being watch fight to the death like the roman gladiators. They also have some differences like people on reality TV get liked being watched because they get paid the hunger games probably don’t liked being watched kill someone or get killed by someone. The only person who gets paid is the winner not like reality TV everyone gets paid.

    2. Yes, I agree with you Cody. The Hunger Games is definitely more barbaric than modern-day reality TV. Do you believe that the media had some impact on how the tributes behaved and acted in the games?

  3. In the Hunger Games, they only broadcast their events because people are getting to see who dies. On reality TV, it’s just for your entertainment. Reality TV also gives you something to think or talk about when your watching reality TV or when your discussing a certain subject that reminds you of the reality TV show

  4. The Caparisons I Can Make Between Reality TV And The Hunger Games Are, Survival. Every Person Tries To Survive At Something. Some People Have Friends And/or Family Watching Or Helping Them Through Their Difficult Times. It’s Not Always Easy, Some Parts Are Hard. Another would be, They Both Focus on Beauty. The More Beautiful Someone Is The More Sponsors They Will Help Them Win The Games. The Hunger Games and Reality TV Are Controlled by Someone, Or Something Called “The Game makers.” People Are Paid to Watch or Let Camera Crews Follow Them around and View over Their Life or A part of it.

    1. Christina, this comparison lacks depth. Think about the purpose behind the Hunger Games and the purpose behind reality TV shows from the perspectives of both the producers and the cast members/tributes. What comparisons can you make between reality TV and the Hunger Games?

  10. Some comparisons I can see between Reality TV and the Hunger Games is both are mostly based on teaching people, making people go against each other or obstacles, beauty and survival. Examples of Reality TV would be Teen Mom, it teaches people what not to do and why, Ninja Warrior brings people against each other and obstacles, Jersey Shore is about beauty, and man , woman, wild is about survival with few partners. The Hunger Games teaches citizens of Panem not to rebel against the Capital, forces the tributes to kill each other while facing other obstacles, shows the beauty of the tributes so, they can get sponsors, and force them to survive with few companions.

  11. After reading the comments, many of you agree that modern-day reality TV show producers and Panem's gamemakers control their casts by manipulating the circumstances and interactions in their shows. Some of you also mentioned how the gamemakers and producers would edit and cut out footage to create a more entertaining show, thereby demonstrating how reality TV is not so "realistic."

How did the Hunger Games tributes behave in front of the cameras? Didn't they also use manipulation in order to win support from their people (districts)? In what ways were Katniss and Peeta manipulative in the games?
